Memorial Day 2016

'We headed to Kansas City for the holiday weekend. Grammy had been in town for a few days, so we took two cars and started out during a severe thunderstorm warning. Probably not the smartest idea.

It was pouring rain as we drove...Scott and Grammy in one car; Ali, the boys and me in the van. It was so loud we could hardly hear. Ali was scared and hid her face in the seat of the car.

At least it didn't last long...by the time we hit El Dorado, we were ahead of the storm.

We stopped for a quick rest at the Hilger's house. Ali was agitated that Dani the cat was peeking out between the blinds at the back door. Then she went crazy when the dog next door came outside. The next door dog didn't care much for the commotion, and stayed clear of the fence and soon went inside.

Saturday we spent the day with the Hilgers. The boys went to the trampoline park, Oma and Papa took naps and Sherry and I spent some time at DSW (shoes).

Dinner was barbecue and s'mores by the fire pit. We were all a little nervous when Uncle Steve picked up the flaming pit and moved it around several times.

Sunday we spent the day at Fort Osage, a historical site in Sibely, MO. We've been there before... when the boys looked like this.

2008.

This is what they look like now. Both these pictures were taken in the same room.

Here's some more photos from Fort Osage.

The sleeping quarters.

Keeping out enemies.

The Blacksmith shop.

Looking out over the Missouri River.

Sitting outside with Grammy.

Despite the important historical significance of Fort Osage, we spent the most time watching this slither up the building to the roof and back down again.
