We spent the weekend in Kansas City, attending my friend's wedding reception and celebrating Mother's Day. The boys were out of school on Friday, so we left Thursday night. We continued the tradition of eating dinner at the McDonald's at Matfield Green on I-35, about an hour north of Wichita. After burgers, fries and chicken nuggets, we set up the DVD player and the boys watched The Incredibles, Scott listened to some sports related commentary on the radio, and I fired up my iPod.
Adam fell asleep in the car, before the movie was over. And Zach? After the movie ended, and he saw that Adam was asleep, he said it was too boring "back here" because there was no one to talk to. Scott suggested he count to 100, which he did, and then asked what else he could do. We pulled into the Dyer's at 10:53 pm, according to Zach.
Friday we played miniature golf at Cool Crest. According to reliable sources, Cool Crest has been around for at least 40 years and used to be "the bomb." We played the "Kings" course, and then let the boys play a few holes on the "Queen" course. As you can see, they made a new friend: A mechanical golfer who has probably been around about as long as I have been alive, and seen much better days.On Saturday we watched Katie & Jake's soccer games and then Scott and I headed down to the Kansas City Power and Light District for my friend Krista's wedding reception. We met my friend Suzy and her husband for dinner at Bice, an Italian bistro. The reception was at Maker's Mark Bourban House and Lounge. All the bars in that area open up to what is called "The Living Rom," according to our waitress. We went bar-hopping until 1:15 am, which just reinforced that I am not 21 anymore. The next morning we ate lunch at the Dyer's. The boys made cards with Pam and Wayne while we were away, and also presented me cute handmade gifts including a plate with Zach's handprint and a flower fingerpainting with matching notecards from Adam...and a sapphire necklace from both of them (with the help of Daddy).
