Here is the first year we went skiing.
This year.
The first two days were a little troublesome with cold temperatures, snow and overcast skies, plus one wrecked ski and too-small boots.
The very first run of the day, Zach fell and somehow the "brake" (the little knob thingy that goes down when your ski comes off that prevents it from sliding all the way down the hill) got stuck down...so Zach couldn't ski on that foot.
Of course, Scott had gone down ahead of us, which reminded me of the time we had the "bush incident." I ended up snowplowing the whole way down, with Zach between my legs, and he was holding up the bad ski and skiing on one leg. By the time we got down, my arms were shaking, my legs were sore and I was sweating. (The last time I did that was when Zach was five years old...and he has grown since then.)
Scott took Zach to get his ski fixed, and Adam and I continued skiing.
The second day was cold and snowy.
We are a "fair weather" skier family, at least I am. Cloudy, 28 degrees and snowing is not the best.
Some of us got cold, so we took a break at the bottom and had a snack. Scott went up a few more times, and skied his favorite run "4 Get About It" which is the type of run that you need to have 911 ready to call on your cell phone.
I also found out that Adam's ski boots were too small. So we ended up renting another pair of boots and skis...much better.
Ah, the rest of the days were much better.
See? No coats at the base of the mountain.
The best thing we learned this trip was a ski path that goes straight to the car loading area. How it took us five years to find this, I don't know. So instead of taking off our skis and carrying everything down to the lot, we simply ski down, find the path and we're there. So. Much. Easier.
